Any parent will tell you that there are not enough hours in the day; things are especially busy when planning an event like a kid’s birthday party. When we were organising our little one’s 2nd Birthday Party we wanted to see if we could save some time. We decided to try partybagsandsupplies.co.uk they provide party supplies, themes and party bags for many occasions.
Ted loves dinosaurs so we chose the Jurassic World party theme, the product was dispatched and arrived in a couple of days. Everything was in the box: a table cloth, cups, plates, napkins and pre-filled party bags. Each party bag contained a dinosaur mask, a dinosaur flyer, a stretchy dinosaur and some sweets. This is a review of BakerDays, a website that provides personalised cakes for any occasion. I ordered an Anniversary Cake with a picture and personalised message for our 3rd Wedding Anniversary. There was a wide range to choose from and you can pick cakes for any occasion Birthdays, Congratulations, Engagements, Anniversaries and many more. The cakes can be ordered in a variety of sizes:
I ordered a 5” Letterbox Gift Cake on the evening of the 12th and it arrived on the 14th. I loved the idea of being able to choose a cake from a wide range of designs and then being able to personalise it by adding a special photograph and a unique message from my boys for their Mummy. When it arrived the Letterbox cake fit perfectly through our letter box and was a great surprise for my wife. It’s our anniversary on the 26th but the boys couldn’t wait to open it once it arrived. It came with balloons and candles, a nice little added extra. It was also safely delivered in a secure cake tin. Our eldest had the honour of presenting it to his Mummy and she was very excited to see what was inside. The design on the cake was great and matched my order exactly.
We couldn’t wait to get tucked in and it was delicious. The sponge was moist and the icing a good thickness. Both boys thought it was very tasty and my wife was very impressed. A great experience from BakerDays in the Bickham household. The idea of a home delivered cake is a novelty and a great gift idea for an anniversary or just to send to someone who may live a distance away. If you are interested in ordering your own cake then check out: - http://www.bakerdays.com/ - https://www.facebook.com/Bakerdays - https://twitter.com/bakerdays I received this cake for free on the basis of providing an honest review.
This is the first review on the Dad Lad blog. Google Cardboard doesn't really give you a clue as to what it is from the name. It refers to the viewer which is used to watch Google Cardboard enabled Apps or videos which are 3D and virtual reality.
I ordered a viewer from Amazon and it was a basic model. The viewers range from cardboard up to more sophisticated models with Bluetooth remotes.
You can use the viewer with your smartphone (mines an iPhone) to watch 3D movies and play games. The basic model comes flat-packed and needs assembling; it took me about 5 minutes and you need some sticky tape. Once built, I tried the Google Cardboard App and Jakku Spy section of the Star Wars App. The 3D and virtual reality is certainly engaging and I can imagine some good uses for encouraging writing in the classroom. The Google Cardboard App allows you to explore some famous destinations like the Eiffel Tower and even Mars. There is also a Kaleidoscope feature which has some really interesting 3D effects. The Star Wars App has you working as a Jakku Spy and watching the Millennium Falcon fly over head is a particularly nice moment. After using the viewer for even a short period it was causing irritation to the bridge of my nose and my phone tended to move which effected the viewing. I added some felt to cushion my nose and some blu-tac to stop my phone moving. These minor tweaks resolved the issues with minimum effort. I then tried a few more Apps and Videos: The YouTube app on ios is still waiting for an update so you can select to view using Google Cardboard. One downside of using your smartphone as a dual screen 3D virtual reality headset is that it halves the resolution as each half of the screen is used to display the same image so there is some noticeable reduction in video quality. Overall Google Cardboard and the Apps do provide a 3D virtual reality experience on a budget; however it still feels like a bit of a gimmick. This may change in the months ahead as more Apps and Videos include the feature. I can definitely see some uses in the classroom to engage and enthuse children in their writing. Hope this review helps and leave any comments or thoughts you have on Google Cardboard below. In the world we live in smartphones have become an essential part of life. In this blog post I will be highlighting a few Apps for iPhones which are helpful for all Dads out there. Instagram is a great App for taking photos of your kids. It's easy to use and lets you add filters to give an arty feel. Then you can either share them on the App, Facebook and Twitter or just save them to your camera roll. Pinterest is an App that allows you to pin ideas, information, recipes or whatever you can imagine. It's a great resource for finding craft ideas, educational tips or a costume for World Book Day. Magisto Magisto is an auto-video creator. You choose the videos and images, the style and music and Magisto does the rest. It compiles a video which you can share on Facebook or upload to YouTube. It sounds simple but creates some really nice videos to share. Endless Reader or 123 Endless Reader or 123 are great Apps to introduce children to words and numbers. The noises, characters and music are engaging and the drag and drop gameplay make it easy for a toddler to use. A free download is available but there are additional charges for the full content. Geocaching Geocaching Intro is an App I've talked about in previous posts. Geocaching makes any walk a little bit more interesting by adding a treasure hunt element to it. Throughout the world there are Geocaches and you can even create your own. This App gives an introduction to Geocaching and lets you log your finds. If there are any Apps you can recommend for Dads then leave a comment below. |
