Back in January 2016 I wrote a blog post ‘New Year Goals 2016’; it was about setting myself some goals for 2016. I didn’t want to set resolutions, just give myself some targets to aim towards. I’ll be doing the same in 2017.
I wanted to review them to see how successful or unsuccessful I’ve been. If I’m honest with myself, I don’t think I’ve made any significant changes, but I do feel a lot happier at the end of 2016 than I did at the start.
Fitness
Although I still have a ‘Dad Bod’, I did manage to complete Total Warrior in August this year and climb Great Gable on Remembrance Sunday. I’m still working on fitting a regular exercise regime around dad life, hopefully 2017 will be the year.
I found a type of exercise ‘HIIT’ (High Intensity Interval Training), which is useful for people with limited time. It involves a 15 – 20 minute workout of various exercises with periods of rest in between. There are lots of HIIT videos online and the very from beginner to expert.
Be more romantic
We managed a weekend away, but it was for a family wedding and not really a romantic getaway. Any parents of young children will tell you it can be difficult to be find time for just you and your partner; we have managed a few visits to the cinema and nice meals in, but this certainly something I want to keep working on in 2017. Blog I have been able to devote more time to my blog this year and now try to blog at least once a week. I am still growing and learning as a blogger, but I love writing and sharing and will continue to do so in 2017. I don’t have a particular niche, I just want to focus on things which are interesting for other parents and help with family life. You Tube This is still an area of my blog which I wish to grow; I’ve made a few videos this year, but would certainly like to increase the volume in 2017.
Photography
I have spent much more time this year taking photos. I was asked to photograph a family friend’s renewal of their wedding vows and loved the opportunity. I have even managed to do some landscape photography when we have been away. I will continue to develop in 2017 and get more and more practice to grow my style.
Christening
Ted was christened in May this year; the weather was lovely and it was nice day spent with friends and family. I can certainly tick this one off. Cycling Although we have encouraged L to use a bike (even buying him a new one), he just isn’t interested at the moment. Like the saying goes ‘You can take a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink it’. T on the other hand loves his little balance bike, at this rate he’ll be able to ride a bike before L.
Family
I feel as though I have more time to spend with my family this year. We have had some great days out and family trips, a few of which have featured on the blog. Here’s to many more in 2017. Friends Again, I feel as though I have more time to spend with my close friends this year. With a weekend away with the boys planned at the end of January, it looks set to continue in 2017. Home Well we moved house in 2016, so we haven’t really had chance to put our stamp on it. 2017 will allow us to make our new house our own. As I look forward to 2017, I feel a lot more settled in my life and I now hope to build on the foundations I have made to make some significant changes to my lifestyle which benefit myself and those around me.
