As a modern man, I support equality for all. Women are still discriminated against in some walks of life, but Dads are certainly treated less favourably when it comes to baby changing facilities. Unfortunately, either baby changing facilities are lacking or hidden away in the ladies. This is a common thing for new Dads to encounter and I have on occasion had to change my boys’ nappies on the floor of the toilets or in the car. Mums don’t appreciate it either, Dad goes to change the nappy and returns moments later, baby in hand and a look on his face saying ‘It’s not might fault they’re in the ladies.’ Many retailers or restaurants put one set of baby changing facilities in the disabled toilet, but this creates its own problems especially if it is a popular family attraction or if the disabled toilet is locked. Nobody wants to be hanging around waiting for a key when you’ve got the smell of an ‘up the back-er’. Earlier this year in the USA, Barrack Obama made it law that all public toilets had to have a baby changing facilities for men to use. This year’s Sudocrem Care & Protect Baby Changing Room Awards have launched and they are focussing on dads.
This year’s awards are looking to recognise those facilities in the UK that do support fatherhood and changing their baby’s nappy! Sudocrem have teamed up with The Dad Network for the category ‘Best Dad’s Toilet.’ You can vote for the best changing facility you have come across. If you enter you will be put into a prize draw to win a family trip to Knoll House, Dorset! You can vote here: https://sudocrem.co.uk/social-hub
