Another trip down memory lane. A lot of my childhood memories include kid’s cartoons; it’s no surprise really, I was a kid at the time after all. There are lots I could choose from, but one of my favourites was ThunderCats … ThunderCats, ThunderCats, Ho!
I remember getting up on a Saturday morning, sitting down in front of the TV watching ‘Going Live’ in my pyjamas and eating my Nesquik, waiting for the intro to kick in.
I loved ThunderCats, I remember having the toys: Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro and the evil Mumm-Ra. It was also the playground game of choice, although everybody wanted to be Lion-O and nobody wanted to be Mumm-Ra or even worse Snarf. The Thundertank was at the top of every young boys Christmas list.
If you don’t know the plot, then ThunderCats followed the adventures of Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, WilyKit and WilyKat, and Snarf. The series began with the end of their home planet Thundera, forcing the ThunderCats to flee. Lion-O owns the sword which holds the Eye of Thundera, the source of the ThunderCats's power. The eldest of the ThunderCats, Jaga, volunteers to pilot the ship while the others sleep in capsules; however, he dies of old age in the process, but not before ensuring they will reach their destination safely. The adventures continue on their new home as they battle Mumm-Ra.
The first TV series finished in 1989. There had been rumours about a film, but it has never materialised. A fake trailer surfaced starring Brad Pitt and Vin Diesel which looks awesome, but it is nothing more than a fan tribute.
I hope you’ve enjoyed taking another trip down memory lane and if you’ve got anything you fancy being nostalgic about then let me know in the comments.
