The Christmas TV season will soon be upon us and this is my round up of the top TV picks for Kids this Christmas. Christmas TV in the past has given us some classics like ‘the Snowman’, ‘the Vicar of Dibley’ and ‘Morecambe and Wise’.
From my own childhood, I remember being amazed by the animation of Wallace and Gromit and in stitches at the comedy gold of Only Fools and Horses: Del Boy and Rodney running through the streets of Peckham as Batman and Robin.
Here are a few highlights of Christmas TV you can enjoy with your little ones and hopefully make some long-term memories for them to reminisce about when they’re older.
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt On Channel 4 on Christmas Eve at 7:30pm. Voiced by Olivia Colman, Pam Ferris and Mark Williams, this half-hour adaptation of Michael Rosen's classic children's book is in a similar style to the Snowman and the Snowdog. The book is a favourite in our house, I think we have 4 copies (one signed by Michael Rosen), so I am expecting the boys to enjoy this.
Cbeebies Panto 2016 The Nutcracker
On Cbeebies on Friday 16th December 2016 at 5:00 pm. This year’s Cbeebies Panto is based on the classic story of the Nutcracker. We still have last year’s Panto Alice in Wonderland saved on our set-top box and it’s still a much-loved viewing. Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes On BBC1 on the 26th & 27th December 2016 at 6:30pm. This 2 part Roald Dahl animated film is adapted from Roald Dahl's poems: Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, The Three Little Pigs, Jack & the Beanstalk and Cinderella. The boys are not quite old enough to be interested in the Roald Dahl books, although they do enjoy watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I loved the world of Roald Dahl as a boy, so I am hoping the boys will too.
Doctor Who Christmas Special
On BBC1 on Christmas Day at 5:45pm. Peter Capaldi's Time Lord joins forces with an actual superhero in 'The Return of Doctor Mysterio'. I have to be honest that since having the boys I haven’t been able to keep up with the Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who, but I did watch last year’s Christmas special and I am hoping that this year will be another classic. I think L might enjoy this one because of the superhero element, will he become a Whovian, only time will tell.
